| Danbury | Limerock | Rt. 7 | Michael Neave | Visit the famous "Marcus Dairy" in Danbury. This area is full of deer and riding in the evening and early morning can be eventful to say the least. |
| Woodstock | Lisbon | Rt. 169 | Steven Valys | This 32 mile drive from Lisbon through Woodstock gives you a glimpse of what life was like for Yankee farmers. Gentle, rolling fields covered with cornstalks and apple orchards stretch as far as the eye can see. And beautiful old barns with towering grain silos still remain. Experience route 169 and you'll understand why it was designated as National scenic byway in 1996 and was voted one of the top 10 scenic roads in the country. |
| Westport | Westport | Loop (see notes) | Cole | Here is a great
route that you can loop. Take Route 33 through Ridgefield until Route
35. Route 35 will merge into US 7 Take US 7 to Marcus Dairy (Airport
Road Exit). From Marcus Dairy take I-84 to Exit 5. Take Route 53 to
Weston, Connecticut (Great twisties around the Saugatuck Reservoir)
and take Route 57 back to Westport.
FYI: There is a great map put out by the State of Connecticut Department of Transportation called "Ride Connecticut" that highlights great motorcycling routes through out the state. If you call them (in Wethersfield, CT) you can get one (or several) for free. |
| Danbury at I-84 exit 5 | See notes | Cole | Another nice run is to start in Danbury at I-84 exit 5 and take Route 39 to Sherman, CT. Where Route 39 and Route 37 intersect is a great breakfast place / bakery (American Pie Company). You can take Route 37 to US 7 or Stay on 39 and take that to US 7. A lot of great roads in that part of the state. | |
| Clarks Falls area | Rt. 49 | Jeffrey Doyle | Take Rt. 49 from
Rt. 184 near Clarks Falls and head north all the way to the
intersection with Rt. 14A in Sterling Hill. This route is similar to
Rt. 169 but different and you can get gas in Voluntown on the way if
you need it. The ride is roughly 20 miles. At the intersection in
Sterling Hill go left on Rt. 14A and you can eventually hook up with
Rt. 169 as described on this list also (in Plainfield). Nearby Central
Village offers dirt bike races during the summer season. From there
you can go north or south...the choice is yours and the mileage adds
up. There are some great expansive views of farm land and nice
twisties. Enjoy, J. Doyle
To follow through on the Route 49 ride. Take a right at the north end of Route 49 to Route 14a this connects you to Rt. 14. This road has some frost heaves so keep a sharp eye open. Rt. 14 crosses Rt. 102 in RI. Take a left onto Rt. 102 about a mile up the road, the road narrows and becomes a nice road to ride on. It is a rural road so watch out for cars pulling out. There are plenty of trees to shade you on a hot summers day. You can follow Rt. 102 till it ends near the MA border or you can turn left on to Rt. 44 that takes you all the way to NY. You have some spots that you can twist the throttle and have a nice boost through. Off of Rt. 44 is Rt. 97. If you take a left on to Rt. 97 it is a nice back road with good riding conditions and an assortment of speeds and twists of your discretion. Jeff Collins |

| Intersection of Rt. 6 & Rt. 72 | Intersection of Rt. 4 and Rt. 72 | Rt. 72 | Martin | The road features some nice sweepers, and some blind turns. There are no traffic lights or business entrances, so traffic is usually minimal. With a nice mix of twisties, straights and hills. The scenery is mostly woods, but there is also a nice passage with a reservoir. Total length 7 miles. One thing to remember, this is a very underdeveloped wet area, so there is a very high concentration of bugs! |
